Youth-led Media Network

What is the Youth led Media Network?

After the success of the Youth-led Media Summit in December 2009, Institute for Global Ethics UK Trust (IGE UK) created a Youth-led Media Network for youth-led media in the UK.  The Network is currently setting up its website - see www.youthledmedia.org.uk - and will connect over 300 youth-led media organisations across the UK, including youth magazines, radio stations/programmes, newspapers, films, photography, websites, and animations, to lead to:

  • More empowered youth-led media, through a new network of over 300 organisations across the UK
  • Greater campaigning opportunities for young people, youth sector and government
  • A greater connection between mainstream and youth-led media
  • Inspired young people through sharing and celebrating good practice
  • A greater understanding of the opportunities and challenges faced by youth-led media
  • More opportunities for partnership work
  • Developing and helping youth-led media projects become self sufficient.

Youth-led Media Network

The Youth-led Media Network will be a contact database for young people seeking information on youth-led media organisations as well a signposting reference for young people involved in youth-led media already. It will also be a useful resource for the media and the youth sector who wish to use a network to disseminate information to over 3 million young people.

“The Respect? Young People’s Advisory Group said they were all really excited about the Youth-led Media Network. They feel targeting youth-led media is the best way to get their message to other young people, but it’s not always easy to track these publications because there aren’t any central databases. So they’re looking forward to the launch!”
