Promoting a Culture of Values

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

IGE UK has delivered Ethical Fitness® training for heads and deputy heads from Stirlingshire, Renfrewshire and Glasgow Education Authorities. Arising from the three study tours to Maine for UK educators, these two-day seminars introduce participants to IGE’s ethical decision-making framework and are designed to equip school leaders with the confidence and tools to promote a culture of values across their school community.  Please contact us for further information about how we can support the promotion of a culture of values in your school.

“This has been my best professional development experience ever.”

Study Tours to Maine, USA

IGE UK has organised three study tours to the US in 2002, 2004 and 2008 for UK educators to look at values education in the State of Maine. Funded by the Cook Foundation, and arranged in collaboration with the Institute for Global Ethics in Rockland, Maine, each of these groups engaged in a week of seminars and workshops which included meetings in the state capital, Augusta, with the Maine Commissioner for Education, as well as visits to elementary, middle and high schools, a number of which are engaged in the Ethical Literacy® programme developed by IGE US.

IGE UK and the Gordon Cook Foundation

IGE UK convened two early consultations at St George’s House, Windsor Castle, on Values Education in Britain: Building the Curriculum (Sept 1997) – which resulted in the report 'Towards a Moral Endeavour – and How can education in values, citizenship and character development be encouraged and supported for all ages?' (Feb 1999).

These two consultations for educators marked the beginning of a long-term relationship between IGE UK and the Gordon Cook Foundation, focusing on values education, which has been chronicled in a book by W. A.Gatherer, published by Edinburgh University Press in 2004, entitled Pioneering Moral Education. Please contact us if you would like a copy.
